New in CPIR’s Resource Library
Every month we add new resources to the CPIR library that Parent Centers can use to inform themselves and the families they serve. Here are two of the newest entries!
State resources on early childhood education.
This interactive map from the Center on Enhancing Early Learning Outcomes (CEELO) offers information on each state’s early learning guidelines for infants and toddlers, prekindergarten, and K-3. You will also find links to state program standards for early childhood education, along with teacher and family guidance documents that relate to the standards.
Consumers guide to content management systems for nonprofits.
This Idealware report is targeted at nonprofits looking to replace an existing content management system, or implementing one for the first time. It looks at 14 popular available content management systems and what they do. (Note: You’ll need to sign up for the free download.)

Spotlight on Disability Information
Disabilities are a natural part of life and a HUGE part of what Parent Centers do every day. Here are several resources that can help you help families address the needs of their children with disabilities.
Visit the CDC.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has an impressive collection of disability information suites that give the basics on conditions as asthma, autism, birth defects, and much more. Each information suite will connect you with information on diagnosis and treatment, data and statistics, state profiles, and other tools and resources. Many suites are available in Spanish as well—and did you know that you can follow CDC en espanol on Facebook?
Special health care needs: Visit the Medical Home Portal.
The Medical Home Portal provides ready access to reliable and useful information for professionals and families to help them care and advocate for children with special health care needs. Search resources by state, and connect with programs near you.
Spanish-language health resources knowledge path.
This knowledge path of the MCH Library links to Spanish-language health resources for health professionals to share with their patients who are Spanish-speaking. Connect with health hotlines and helplines in Spanish, websites, resources from the MCH catalog, additional Spanish-language health materials, and more.

Resources You Can Share with Families
Speak up for kids.
Now in its fourth year, The Child Mind Institute’s Speak Up for Kids is a month-long campaign to protect and promote children’s mental health.. Speak Up for Kids provides a space to share your experiences, find inspiration and hope from others, and access helpful resources like a Symptom Checker, Parents Guide to Getting Good Care, and strategies for everyday challenges.
Assistive technology for students with learning disabilities.
Assistive technology can help children with LD leverage their strengths and work around or compensate for specific learning problems. These supports can be key to helping users become more independent in school and throughout life—on the job and in activities for daily living.
Connect families with respite care.
Respite is temporary relief for caregivers and families who are caring for seniors or people with disabilities or chronic or terminal illnesses. The ARCH National Respite Locator Service helps parents, caregivers, and professionals find respite services in their state and local area to match their specific needs.
Resources Just for Parent Centers
This section of the CPIR’s newsletter focuses on the many priority areas that Parent Centers have, with a special emphasis on the 14 topics that OSEP has identified as important for Parent Centers and the CPIR to address.

Social media 101 for nonprofits | As a nonprofit organization, having a dedicated, active community of supporters and advocates is one of your most valuable assets. But how can you extend this engaged group of supports in order to establish and grow an online community as well? This 30-minute, on-demand webinar explores highly effective social strategies and tactics proven to foster an engaged, active community for your nonprofit.
