On December 18, the US Department of Education took the first steps toward implementing ESSA, by issuing a Dear Colleague Letter to state education agencies (SEAs) (http://www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/essa/transition-dcl.pdf) and publishing in the Federal Register a Request for Information (RFI) (https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2015-32178.pdf). The RFI seeks advice and recommendations concerning topics under Title I of the new law for which regulations may be helpful in assisting states, districts, and schools to implement the new law. This provides stakeholders with an opportunity to identify areas that could particularly benefit from regulations and provide specific feedback on what those regulations should establish and require. We strongly encourage you to provide detailed and targeted comments in response to this request for information. The public comment period ends on January 21.

In this forum, let’s attach comments from Parent Centers and other partners that address the needs of students with disabilities in their responses to the US DOE request for input on the sections of ESSA that require regulation.

You are encouraged to submit your own detailed comments. Please feel free to share your comments with the Parent Center Network and other parent organizations in your state and communities.

Submit your comments electronically via http://www.regulations.gov (http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=ED-2015-OESE-0130-0001) by January 21.
